On January 1, Richard Higgins of Richard Higgins Architects, Inc. announced that the reorganization of his architectural firm, after 20 years, includes a partnership with architect Jason Merriam. Merriam, now vice president and partner, has worked with Higgins for the past seven years. The firm's new name is Higgins & Merriam Architects. The business is still located on the third floor of 423 Main Street in Rockland, just above Lily Bistro.
Merriam grew up in Bucksport, graduated from Norwich University and completed internship training in Maine and Connecticut. Upon returning to Maine, he became a licensed Maine architect while working for Higgins. His wife, Dr. Amy Campbell, is a dentist at Glen Cove Dental Associates. They currently live in Rockland with their son, Elliot.
Higgins and Merriam offer services in the field of commercial and residential architecture. Their local work has included the Strand Theater, The Free Press building renovation, the Rockland Savings Bank in Waldoboro and the Hope Fire Station, to list a few projects. The partners also work throughout Maine, and have just completed a $3.5 million dollar project in Houlton.
