Learn how to use a Global Positioning System (GPS) unit in time for SVCA’s Geocaching Contest.
In partnership with the Maine Forest Service, Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association (SVCA) will host a GPS (Global Positioning System) Training Workshop for all ages on Saturday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its office on 624 Sheepscot Road in Newcastle.

This is an opportunity to learn more of the "ins and outs" of a GPS and how to use one to participate in the sport of geocaching. The SVCA is offering a Geocaching Contest that will kick off on Saturday, May 29, with prizes for the first person to find the caches on SVCA's seven public preserves and prizes for those that find all of the caches before Labor Day.

GPS workshop participants will receive approximately two hours of classroom instruction and two hours outside with hands-on training in the use of a GPS unit. Classes will be divided between children and adults for the classroom time. The workshop cost is $5 per person and pre-registration is required. GPS units will be provided for the training session to those who need them. For more information or to register, contact the SVCA at 586-5616.
