River Arts, 241 Route 1 in Damariscotta, offers over 50 art classes year-round in its studio. Upcoming classes and studio sessions include:

• Everything Clay with Alexsondra Tomasulo, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on four Tuesdays starting March 7 — Offers a self-directed approach to understanding forms in clay, utilitarian or the sculptural, wheel-thrown or handbuilt. Cost is $150, plus $10 materials fee.

• Gouache Painting with Julie Babb, 10 a.m. to noon on six Tuesdays starting March  21 — Properties of the medium, some basic color theory, shading and drybrush technique, with focus on accurate representation using subject matter from nature (botanicals, birds, etc.). Cost is $175 for members, $180 for non-members. Instructor will bring some basic supplies to the first class; ask for full supplies list.  

• Life Sculpture Studio, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sundays, starting over every four weeks — Participants will work, without instruction, from a long-term pose over four weeks, or from two two-week poses. No formal critiques, but help whenever needed. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own tools, armatures and preferred sculpting medium. There are some tools and supplies to borrow until you can get your own, but selection is limited. Cost is $80.

• Learn to Draw with Sandi Cirillo, Sunday, April 9, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Beginners age 15 to adult will learn about  composition, value, perspective, etc. and try different drawing materials. All supplies will be provided. Cost is $75, plus $8 materials fee.

• Open Studio Life Drawing on Wednesdays, 6 to 9 p.m.  — Drop in by 5:45. Monitored, not taught; easels provided. Cost is $20.
