Belfast Garden Club invites everyone to a free talk by organic farmer Lee Graham on the ins and outs of growing asparagus in Maine, at Belfast Free Library on Tuesday, March 21, at 2 p.m. Asparagus is a perennial, making it a welcome option for those who tire of replanting their entire vegetable garden each year. Graham, imbued with a love of gardening by her grandparents, has been growing organically since the 1970s. She and her husband spend their winters in Belfast and their summers on their 72-acre organic farm in Woodstock (Maine) raising not only asparagus, which they market, but also apples, berries, grapes, flowers and a wide variety of vegetables. The public is welcome at Belfast Garden Club programs. For more information, visit BelfastGardenClub.org or call club president Corliss Davis at 930-3562.
