People around the midcoast can learn about sugar frequently hidden in common foods, and tasty and healthy alternatives, in “Learn to Be Sugar Savvy,” a free two-part workshop presented by Journey to Health as part of its Cooking for Health series. The “Sugar Savvy” class schedule is:

Washington: Monday, March 6 and 13, 10 a.m. to noon at Washington Village Church, 33 Liberty Road

Lincolnville: Tuesday, March 14 and 21, 3 to 5 p.m. at Lincolnville Community Building, 18 Searsmont Road

Union: Wednesday, March 15 and 22, 10 a.m. to noon at People’s United Methodist Church, 21 Depot Street

Stockton Springs: Thursday, March 16 and 23, 1 to 3 p.m. at Stockton Springs Town Office, 217 Main Street

Journey to Health is a cooperative effort of Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital. In all, Journey to Health will be offering 40 free hands-on healthy cooking classes throughout Knox and Waldo counties, especially intended for low-income families and those with chronic health conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
