Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine (HHRC) will host its annual Yom HaShoah: Holocaust Day of Remembrance program at the Michael Klahr Center in Augusta at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 30. The program is presented in conjunction with the exhibit “Heroism in Unjust Times: Rescuers During the Holocaust,” on view at the center from Monday, April 24, through August 11.

The April 30 program will include a screening of the film “Disobedience: The Sousa Mendes Story,” the true account of Aristides de Sousa Mendes, a Portuguese consul who defied the orders of his government and granted thousands of visas to “undesirables” during the Holocaust. There will also be a question-and-answer session with Mona Pearl Treyball, the daughter of Sousa Mendes visa recipient Sara Tanne. The program is free to attend, though donations are gratefully accepted. Light refreshments will be provided.
